How Does the iTero® Scanner Work
The iTero® Element uses a combination of optical imaging and proprietary software to capture and process dental anatomy in real time. Here is what a scan looks like in practice:
Preparation
No preparation is required on your end. There is nothing to mix, no trays to size, and no material to insert. You simply sit comfortably in the chair while Dr. Cosmo's team prepares the scanner.

The Scan
Dr. Cosmo or a trained team member guides the small, ergonomic iTero® wand around the surfaces of your teeth — moving smoothly across each arch and bite position. The wand does not touch the teeth directly and applies no pressure.

Real-time Model Construction
As the scan progresses, the software renders a full-color, three-dimensional model of your dentition on the chairside screen in real time. You can see your own teeth being captured as the scan takes place — an experience most patients find genuinely interesting.

Immediate Review
Once the scan is complete, Dr. Cosmo can immediately review the digital model — rotating it in three dimensions, measuring arch dimensions and tooth positions, and assessing the bite relationship — with a level of detail and accuracy that physical plaster models simply cannot match.

Digital Delivery
The completed scan is transmitted digitally to any laboratory or system that requires it — including Invisalign® treatment planning, retainer fabrication, and appliance manufacturing — with no physical model to ship, no risk of damage in transit, and no delays.
